Founded in 1904, Mosman Prep (as it is fondly called) is a specialist preparatory school for boys. As the first Headmaster, 'Tibby' Yarnold said at the time "I wish to establish a school of a good type where parents can confidently send their boys". Over the following 100 years the School has provided an outstanding academic, social and all-round education for boys that well prepares them for the future. Our slogan 'Educating for Tomorrow, Today' encapsulates our focus on being forward looking in readiness for the complexities of the world in which the boys will live. The school is of a size where every boy is known personally. There are nearly 290 boys, organised into fourteen classes. Staffing consists of fourteen class teachers and eight teacher assistants. K - 3 classes each have a teaching assistant each day to personalise learning and assist with grasping new ideas.
Hand in hand with this excellent staffing ratio is our philosophy of focusing on the individual needs and abilities of our boys and addressing the issues which are a fundamental part of educating thoughtful and capable boys. Mosman Prep fosters a comprehensive approach to education that emphasises thinking, valuing & doing and occurs in the context of a personalised, Christian philosophy. This enables our boys to excel in academic and sporting pursuits, and in a wide range of expressive arts. Mosman Preparatory School offers its students a wide range of before and after school co-curricular programmes.
We have preferred access arrangements with several Great Public Schools and with other major secondary schools, including: The Scots College, The Kings School, Newington College, The Armidale School and St. Andrew's Cathedral School. External measures of academic success abound. More than half our senior boys traditionally receive High Distinction, Distinction or Credit awards in the NSW University National English, Mathematics, Computing and Science Competitions.
