Mosman Church of England Preparatory School is committed to promoting and supporting changes in the way our children live their lives so they adopt a healthy lifestyle. Learning in Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) provides the opportunity.
The boys are provided with a balanced physical education programme which emphasises the following areas:
(1) Motor skills and individual fitness.
(2) Self-esteem, well-being and social responsibility
(3) The ability to make informed health and lifestyle decisions, and
(4) The development of positive relationships and teamwork.
The Physical Education Programme includes skill lessons in games and sport skills, dance, gymnastics and aquatics. Sailing, freestyle wrestling, golf and croquet are also part of the programme.
The School has a large hall, basketball court and a synthetic grass area. A wide variety of equipment is available to the boys: a 14m x 14m wrestling mat, gymnastics mats, parallel bars, gymnastics beam and benches, mini-trampolines and beat boards; an assortment of manipulative games equipment catering for the different age groups in K to 6 for the following activities: cricket, rugby, soccer, basketball, T-ball, softball, sphairee, badminton, tennis, volleyball and hockey.
Personal Development and Health are taught in all the five Key Learning Areas. Mosman Prep recognises that sport is an essential component of school life. All Years 3 to 6 boys compete in sport. The School participates in the Junior School Heads’ Association (NSW) Sporting Programme.
In Years 3 to 6, there is an afternoon and Saturday morning sports programme. Every boy is involved in sport at a suitable level. In Terms 1 and 4, boys can participate in basketball, cricket, tee ball, and softball. In Terms 2 and 3, boys can participate in rugby and soccer.
Enjoyment for children and sportsmanship are emphasised at all times. Children are encouraged to play hard and strive fairly.
Throughout each year, boys may participate in interschool athletics, swimming and cross country carnivals organized by schools within the JSHAA and Quad sporting organisations. In swimming, cross country and athletics, Mosman Prep holds its own carnivals annually for both Junior and Senior Primary boys. House competitions in various sports and games are held throughout the year.
